In Memory of Charles Campbell

June 25, 2013 by Shaun Farley

A message from Randy Thom…

ChuckCampbell2Charles (Chuck) Campbell, whose Supervising Sound Editor credits included the Back To The Future series, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, ET, and Schindler’s List, died in his sleep a few days ago.  Chuck was a gentleman statesman in film sound, in addition to being a heck of a sound editor, and he was a mentor to many, many people in our business.

From the Designing Sound team…Our thoughts go out to Charles’ family and friends. His work has had a profound influence on many a sound professional, and his presence will be missed.

Chuck Campbell was a true titan of modern film sound. He and Fred Brown had both an incredible impact on Hollywood and the art of what film sound is- He will be missed for sure… but his influence and progeny are great and widespread…. Long Live the King….

Mr Campbell will live on through his legacy. A huge inspiration. Through his work, a constant provider of learning opportunities.

A true gentleman in every sense of the word! Always pleasant to work with and a joy to be around.

Just learned of Chuck’s passing today. He was easily one of my favorite people from the biz and one heck of a mentor to many. I so enjoyed working with him and his crew at Hollywood Way during the start of my career. When in doubt, do what Chuck would do!
