A quick roundup of the independent sfx libraries to have hit our inbox this month.
Blastwave FX – Heroes & Villains
Blastwave FX have launched a competition to coincide with the release of their latest library collection, Heroes & Villains. You will need to call upon your most potent and deadly super power for a chance to win: entrants have to post a video of themselves reading a list of sound effects included in the library… in less than 60 seconds.
Twisted Tools – Metamorph
Metamorph is the brand new sample library from San Francisco instrument software makers Twisted Tools. With over 2GB of audio at 24bit/96Khz, Metamorph’s mash-up of electroacoustic and designed sounds was developed by Italian sound designers BJM Mario Bajardi and Paolo Bigazzi (aka Komplex).

Surround Ambiences – Spring Marsh HD 5.0
Freelance sound recordist and sound editor Gabriele Fasano has just launched a breathtaking new collection. Recorded in the wetlands of Tuscany, Italy, Spring Marsh features ambience recordings of between roughly 2-5 minutes duration, that take in frogs, egrets, blackbirds and crows.
Spring Marsh HD is available as a 5.0 package (€30.00) or stereo package (€25.00). (Note: The 5.0 package includes the stereo library free of charge.) There is also a taster that you can download for free.
Check the Surround Ambiences website for more information.
Boom Library – Winds of Nature by Gordon Hempton
Finally, but by no means least, for the next 96 hours Boom Library will be knocking 20% off the full price of their latest release. Winds of Nature is the second collaboration between Boom and award-winning sound ecologist Gordon Hempton, and this time it’s intense roars and desert winds on the agenda.
Winds of Nature is available at the discounted price of €119.00 until 29 October 2013. Additionally, it is also available from Hempton’s own Quiet Planet imprint.
PS – In case you missed it, DS caught up with Gordon Hempton as part of October’s Field Recording Month. Check out Shaun Farley’s interview here.
