First Ever Designing Sound Community Meetup!

October 11, 2013 by Shaun Farley

AES135b

“Meet people in real life?! Surely you jest!” Well, we’re doing it. Sam and I will both be attending the AES conference in New York Next week, and I thought it was well past time we actually organized a Designing Sound Community meet/drink-up. It will take place next Thursday, October 17th, at 8:30PM. We’re still hammering out the location, but sign up now. It will give us more info to work with while we’re talking with the bars and restaurants in the area.

Sign up using the form after the jump.

Do you have to sign up? Yes. We need a head count.

I am not going to the conference, but I live in/near New York City. Can I still come to the meetup? HELL YEAH!

Thanks, and hope to see you there!

UPDATE: LOCATION PICKED. Alfie’s (800 9th Ave). Yes, please continue to sign up (headcount and all that).

This is GREAT! We are based in the Lower East Side of NYC – what about hosting it at an actual studio? I have several places in mind and being that we are in NYC I’d be happy to help if need be. Please contact me directly to discuss if interested. Looking forward to this!

I’ll shoot you an e-mail, Douglas. I also need to respond to something Jeremy sent me. I’ll try to contact both of you today.

Does anyone AES sign some dumb contract that locks them into NY and SF in the US? it always bugs me that conferences are rarely held anywhere else in the US

They go back and forth from coast to coast each year, in the attempt to make it more convenient for one half of the community or another. They also try to take foreign travelers, availability of public transportation, etc. into account. There aren’t a lot of places in the U.S. that fit the bill properly. They are holding it in LA again for the first time in a long while.

Shaun, the coasts only account half the sound works 25% each. middle America makes up the other half. there are a ton of other convention centers that are better then Moscone as well. Moscone is actually one of the worst places i have worked. Usually associations sign long contracts to get lower costs. Moscone is one of most costly convention centers to have a show at. besides AES international shows the last time i remember it being somewhere else was LA in 2003!
