Short Film on Gun Recording, Plus Diego Stocco's New Custom Instrument

June 21, 2010 by Miguel Isaza

I want to share two short videos I found this weekend, ideal for this nice monday morning. The first one (at the top) is a short film form Radium Audio Ltd, featuring a cool behind the scenes of a gun recording session they had recently.

Background: We wanted to capture a behind the scenes to demonstrate our approach at Radium Audio.
This film is was shot by us, music – sound designed and edited and we commissioned Clemens Wirth to create the after fx you see layered on top.

The purpose of the film is to capture the approach and support the recent commissions from The Mill and Sky One with 100% genuine sounds.

The second one is from our good friend, Diego Stocco, who has built a new amazing instrument called Bassoforte, check the great custom sounds he obtains:

Few days ago I started thinking about how I could re-purpose the keyboard of the dismantled piano I keep in the garden,  so I thought to build a new instrument by combining it with some other parts I had laying around.
I ended up with this mechanical hybrid thing I thought to call “Bassoforte” (bass + pianoforte).

The neck is from a broken electric bass, as a bridge I used a cabinet handle, the pickups are from a guitar, and the part
at the top where the strings are attached is a chimney cap, which works as resonator as well as percussive sound.

The track I created is a tribute to my Dad who is a big fan of Western comic books and “spaghetti western” films,
and because of him I am too.

cool! but why did they record the guns in a cellar?

Genial la entrada Miguel, en serio

El señor Stocco es un genio, hace tiempo que le sigo y creo que tiene un talento fuera de lo común.
