Couldn’t resist posting this 1950 documentary short TCM has been airing. Simply called “The Soundmen“ it documents the trip sound took from production to print back in the day. I love that last quote from the dapper looking production mixer.
“The talking motion picture of today has brought to the screen new heights of expression, and we the sound men will continue to perfect our medium in an effort to bring better entertainment to you.”

Great! I think it's ironic that the sound on this video is horrible.
All of those facilities are MGM, aren't they? Looks like some of the old pictures we have hanging around here at the Sony lot. The recording building is still here, it's full of computers but it still performs approximately the same purpose.
I wonder what specifically that third man on the stage was mixing… Couldn't help but notice the conspicuous absence of the picture editor and director on the stage, too :)
