Sunday Sound Thought 27 – Interpretations

July 3, 2016 by Shaun Farley

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… This past week, something from the 16th week of this series was bouncing around in my head again, "sound has … [Read more...]

Sunday Sound Thought 26 – The Establishing Field

June 26, 2016 by Shaun Farley

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… This week, I'm returning to the little thread of visual analogs that I had going for a while. I recently … [Read more...]

Become a Designing Sound Correspondent

June 23, 2016 by Shaun Farley

Back in April, we put out an open call for new contributing editors. Holy crap, were we overwhelmed by the response! Over 50 people stepped forward and threw their names into the hat. Going through all of that data wasn't easy, and we didn't have the opportunity to sit down and speak directly with all of you. If you remember how that site was, before it merged with … [Read more...]

June 19, 2016 by Shaun Farley

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… I went to see a period war film last night, and something stuck out to me. Well a lot of things stuck out to … [Read more...]

Sunday Sound Though 24 – Proper Use of Clichéd Sounds

June 12, 2016 by Shaun Farley

As the year continues, many of these posts will be philosophical in nature. Some will be in contradiction to previous postings. These are not intended as truths or assertions, they’re merely thoughts…ideas. Think of this as stream of consciousness over a wide span… Besides the obvious answer of, "DON'T!" This week's post was inspired by the use of the Wilhelm Scream in … [Read more...]

DIY Travel Cases for Your Blimps

June 9, 2016 by Shaun Farley

I have four single mic Rycote windscreens that come from two (maybe three) different generations of design/construction. My two WS2 windscreens are very recent, and much sturdier in build than my two WS4 windscreens. There's some field recording I'd like to do over the summer, but I have concerns about getting these windscreens safely out to some of the locations I want to hit. … [Read more...]
