I recently sat down and played with the OS X version of Quiztones the other day and had a blast. A bit of background on the app from the Audiofile Engineering site:
Quiztones is a frequency ear trainer for amateur and professional audio engineers, producers, and musicians.
Quiztones uses tones and frequency-altered noise and musical loops (including source material from your own music library) to train your ears and help develop more acute listening and frequency recognition skills.
In essence you listen to sine waves and guess the frequency, listen to loops and guess the gain, or listen to loops and guess the frequency gain. The interface is very simple and understandable, this is perhaps due to the app also being available on iOS.

I think this app is a fantastic little resource especially for someone like me who did not get formal training in anything electronic in college. I found the gain quizzes pretty easy but once I tried the sine wave and frequency gain tests I was put in my place. To the credit of the app I was not discouraged, rather the ease of use and presentation are certainly encouraging.
Personally I think Quiztones is a must-buy, especially on iOS. The app is robust, inexpensive, and does exactly what it set out to do with no fuss. I think Quiztones could perhaps even be used in quickly testing out some new monitors or headphones.
On a 5 star scale I give Quiztones a Yes.

Great app, but I think it’s worth mentioning that you to buy the Pro version of the app (another 2,39 on already 3,99 euro’s) for some of the tests. This was a bit of a surprise after purchase and don’t remember reading that here.

Yeah, I was also going to ask if you’ve compared it to Train Your Ears, which I like so far. They don’t have a mobile version, yet.
I’ve tried both and both are great I think. If you want something simple, then use Quiztones. If you want something more advanced, then TrainYourEars is better.

Our goal with Quiztones is to make it simple to use so you can get going quickly, but with the intelligence already built in so you don’t have to spend a ton of time configuring settings. It’s a balance of course, and we’re always striving to improve the app.
Along with eventually adding quizzes for compression and time-based effects, we’re releasing Quiztones for Android soon, and also considering building Quiztones for Windows! Stay tuned…
