In the video I was doing for BOOM, I also had the opportunity to use the Ultimate Snow library in there. It’s another amazing collection recorded and distributed by Frank Bry under The Recordist.
The library is amazing, as always. Frank is a true master in this thing. He record the sounds with the sound designer mind, so he really knows how to get a unique performance and lots of different sources. As he wisely said in an interview I had with him for Sonic Terrain:
“I had a moment. I really began to understand that a sound effect is not just a sound, it’s a performance. Character, vibe, personality, emotion, etc. are the most important aspects of a sound to me. How does it make me feel? Does it make the fantasy monster or character feel real?”
There’s no asingle pattern followed in this library. Flexibility and variety are the key names here.
You not only get cool snow sounds here. This library has almost any snow sounds you can think of, from footsteps, to impacts, slides, movement of large snow amounts, and more. The library includes 300 sounds perfectly recorded and tagged. That’s another cool thing I’ve found in The Recordist’s releases, Frank is very organized and his naming/tagging structure is fantastic. I’ve learned a lot of cool tricks to name and tag sounds, just looking at Frank’s sounds.
This stuff can be used on a lot of different things… From creatures to spells or common snow sounds. In the video you can see below, I was working on has scenes in the snow, so all the characters’ footsteps, slides and movements were done using sounds from the library. I also used several impacts for the explosions, some ice/snow debris, and a few sounds in the spells.

Frank is making an impressive work with this Soundbox Pro libraries. Can’t imagine how impressive his product catalog will be in a year or something like that. He already have rocks, ice, snow, mud, and I can tell you that there is a lot of impressive material coming soon.
