Shaun Farley from Dynamic Interference has announced the Sound Design Challenge for this month.
For this month’s challenge, we’re going to be creating a sound design to fill in the space outside of the camera’s frame, but this is really more of a test of your storytelling skills.
Details:
- Create and tell a story about the character in the video.
- Overall, the piece should give the impression that the character feels trapped in some way (how is up to you).
- No private interior monologue. The character should not be able to say anything that cannot be heard within the surrounding environment in some manner.
Deadline and Prize
Entries should be posted to the Vimeo group no later than 5PM on Sunday, September 26th (US Eastern Standard Time). The countdown clock in the right hand column should help everyone in different time zones keep track of how much time they have left. The video will be removed from the server 24 hours before the close of this month’s competition.
And now this month’s prize! Nick Maxwell (of NicksTutorials.com) has offered up a package of his tutorials to the winner of the popular vote. And I quote, “These video tutorials focus on creative sound design using the devices in Ableton Live, including Simpler, Sampler, Analog, and Operator. They cover everything from basic interface features all the way through comprehensive sound design examples in a step-by-step format. The prize includes all 4 of Nick’s currently available tutorial packages. Feel free to visit http://nickstutorials.com for more information!”

Thanks for posting this, Miguel. Also there’s one more rule for this month’s challenge (that I added this morning). You don’t have to cover the whole video. You may use any 45 continuous seconds from the video (you can trim the head or tail, but no editing/jump cuts/etc.)

Thanks for creating this interesting challenge! Where can I download the video in order to participate?

Where are the downloads? Would love to check it out, and if time permits, give it a shot :)
