Rob Nokes Special: Recording in Vietnam

August 12, 2010 by Miguel Isaza

“We travelled to Vietnam to record for the Korean film “Nim-eun-meon-go-sae” a.k.a. “Sunny”, a movie about a band who gets caught in the troubles of the war, you can learn more about it here.

Vietnam seemed like a field recordist’s dreamland: cities lost in time, lots of nature and a slow paced lifestyle that would have interesting and unique sounds. Well, we did find those unique and beautiful sounds, but it took a lot of work to escape from the densely populated cities and uninterrupted traffic (day and night). Scooters and cars were everywhere and it put our recording knowledge to the ultimate test. We came out on top of this struggle and gathered many wonderful recordings of street markets, ancient towns, temples, nature, an ancient rice mill and lots more.”
