Is always happy for me to see sound professionals sharing their ideas, recordings and all kind of knowledge on the internet. This time, sound recordist/designer/re-recording mixer Nick Meade is announcing the launch of his new blog called “The Educated Sound Designer“, where he plans to share all kind of stuff, including reviews, thoughts, sound effects discussion and more.
On his first post Nick is sharing a list called “Seven Steps to Being a Better Photographer” but thinking on a Sound Designer instead of Photographer. For example:
- Always have a camera in your hand or your pocket or your purse or your car or all of the above. Always. No exceptions.
- Experiment. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Try different angles. Shoot during different times of day. Get outside your comfort zone.
- Share. Show your work to others. Ask them how it stacks up to the work they see in newspapers, books and magazines. Be willing to experience some criticism and see if you can use that information to get better.
What would happen if we change some words there? (Such as “pocket recorder” instead of “camera”) We get really cool advices for our jobs. Read the complete list and see for yourself.
