Transformers 2: Interview Round Up

June 29, 2009 by Jake Riehle

I planned on interviewing some of the post sound crew from "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" but there are so many great interviews out there already about the great work they did, I might as well be a blogger in disguise and just link to them. AUDIO-MEDIA magazine: Interview with Erik Aadahl, Ethan Van Der Ryn, and Greg Russell. EDITORS-GUILD magazine PT.1: Q and A … [Read more...]

"Monsters vs. Aliens" – Exclusive Interview with Sound Supervisor Erik Aadahl

April 6, 2009 by Jake Riehle

"Monster's vs. Aliens" went to war in theaters March 27th. Though, on screen Dreamworks Animation introduced audiences to a new cast of characters, behind the scenes boasted a familiar band of sound craftsmen. Following their work on last year's "Kung Fu Panda", re-recording mixers and Dreamworks Animation darlings Andy Nelson and Anna Behlmer once again rolled their chairs up … [Read more...]

Exclusive Interview with Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van Der Ryn, Sound Supervisors on Kung Fu Panda

June 12, 2008 by Jake Riehle

"Kung Fu Panda" kee-yahed its way into theaters June 6th. Sound supervisors Ethan Van Der Ryn and Erik Aadahl achieved the very definition of "Kung Fu" (achievement through great effort) in their sound editorial. Both from "Transformers" fame, "Panda" marks seasoned sound designer Aadahl's first "supervising sound editor" credit for a feature film. Mixing took place at Fox … [Read more...]

“Transformers” Sound Off

February 14, 2008 by Jake Riehle

Wow, I feel like Daniel Plainview in "There Will Be Blood": "I've abandoned my child! I've abandoned my child!" Sorry for the long gap in posts. The current gig has ruined any free time I had to do this thing, but we're almost into final mix so things here will get back on track. So I promised some coverage on last week's "Transformers" event. There is some great stuff already … [Read more...]

MPSE Sound Show ’07 (Updated)

November 6, 2007 by Jake Riehle

UPDATE: The Editors Guild has posted a article on the night HERE. I just wanted to take a sec to thank Scott Haller, Bobbi Banks, and the rest of the MPSE for putting on such a great show tonight at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. I saw a few cameras taping the event so if and when it is available online, I will be sure to link it here. Sound editorial members Erik Aadahl … [Read more...]

News Flash: MPSE Sound Show Returns!

October 5, 2007 by Jake Riehle

Extra, extra, the MPSE sound show is back! As hinted a few weeks earlier, here in Los Angeles on Nov. 5th, 2007, a sound event featuring editorial crew members (and maybe other craftsmen) of "Transformers" is being put on by the Motion Picture Sound Editors. Though my favorite transformer Soundwave didn't make it into the film, I am excited that the MPSE is putting on what … [Read more...]

“Transformers” (Pt.3) – Exclusive Interview with Sound Designer Erik Aadahl

July 4, 2007 by Jake Riehle

Holy Crap! I went to see "Transformers" tonight. I just wanted to applaud all the great work in this film. Too much cool stuff to list! Check it out in the best sounding theater available. Thanks so much to Sound Designer Erik Aadahl for taking some time out to do this Q and A! Designing Sound: I've read a lot of discussions lately about defining a Sound Designer. What … [Read more...]
