In this interview, Philip Mantoine from theproaudiofiles.com had a chance to pick the brain of audio veteran Seph Lawrence.
Lawrence has an impressive career. He has been Creative Director, Sound Supervisor and Sound Designer working for companies like Blizzard Entertainment, Raven Software and most recently Torrential Audio – a company specializing in recording and designing audio source material.
It’s an extensive interview with career advice as well as ideas on how to be creative with sound design, from recording to post processing. He also touches on how restriction enhances creativity. One technique he uses is only having a total of three plugins in his plugin folder:
“For example, try choosing a delay, pitch shift and EQ. Then force yourself to create some interesting results from just those three plugins. It can take quite a bit of experimentation and you may find it difficult at first, but as you press on, it can lead to unexpected ingenuity.”
