Tarkovsky it’s a quite, quite controversial reflection of the soviet science fiction. Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, they are the Fathers of the soviet sci-fi literature. Tarkovsky’s “Stalker” (supposedly based on Strugatsky’s “Roadside Picnic”) has nothing common with the sourcebook.

PS Don’t watch the modern screen version “The Inhabited Island” (2008). It’s a nonsense and a miserable odd job. There is no cinema in Russia anymore.
