An Interview with Zachary Quarles, ID Software's Audio Lead

October 27, 2010 by Miguel Isaza

Charisma +2 Magazine published an interview with Zachary Quarles, Audio Lead at ID Software. They talk about a lot of different things about his thoughts as an audio lead/designer, his work on Doom games, etc. It’s a very cool read.

What made you decide to pursue a career in sound design?

Well, I actually started in musical theatre which is what my undergrad is in. Growing up, I’d write my own music on the computer and it became a way for me to decompress after school or my job. I’d come home and write some music (which would never go anywhere) for myself and be like “Okay, well that feels better” then I’d go work again. That kind of went away for a while during my first years of college. I started writing again for some theatrical productions for the theatre department there and the passion started to come back.
