Defined by Wikipedia, Crowdsourcing is “the act of outsourcing tasks, traditionally performed by an employee or contractor to a large group of people or community (a crowd), through an open call.”
That’s the new and fantastic idea of talented Tim Prebble, owner of HISS and a ROAR. The idea consists in group 100 recordists, who would have to record 10 doors sounds (each one), to achieve a library of 1000 different door sounds. This library will be released as HISS and a ROAR title and those who participate will get the library for free.
Tim is looking for recordists to make a database and start and then follow up to initiate proceedings. Ideally, the door should be recorded at 96k, and would be great if the sound is accompanied with a photo of the door. In a recent update by Tim, he said:
We now have 37 recordists onboard! Please keep spreading the word & coerce your soundie friends!
A good example – I needed caravan doors for the mix this week & have been running around recording them (I think Americans call them trailers) – my conclusion: no two doors are the same!I literally want a library with 1,000 doors in it!
Do you want to participate? Don’t be afraid. Just put a comment on the official post at Music of Sound and you’re in.

I wonder what the deal will be. He gets to sell it, all the rights and the contributors get a free download?

pretty smart move.
