"Social Sound Design", New Q&A Site for Collaboration Between Sound Designers

March 2, 2010 by Miguel Isaza

SSD

Andrew Spitz, from {sound + design} has launched a new website called “Social Sound Design“, a place oriented to all kind of sound guys who wants to collaborate by questions and answers.

Andrew said:

Sound design has many facets. As sound designers, we may step into the shoes of an artist, programmer, editor, storyteller or engineer. Because we play so many roles, we may not have all the expertise we need to carry out a project. The purpose of this site is to provide a community-driven knowledge exchange on all disciplines of sound design.

Whenever I’m busy with a project, I have to navigate through a countless number of forums and websites to find information. On the flip side, I often receive emails from people who have questions. It takes me a lot of time to respond and the information only goes to that one person instead of the community.

This new project looks very promising! The only way to keep it running is having your collaboration. Let’s login and start with your questions/answers. And wait! If you’re the first one to get the “Nice Question” badge you receive a signed copy of David Sonnenschein’s great book Sound Design: The Expressive Power of Music, Voice and Sound Effects in Cinema.

I really hope this gets off the ground. The system works really well for sites like Stack Overflow and this could be a gold mine for sound designers. I’m looking forward to this!
