One of the most active “fields” of Richard Devine is the experimentation with sound. He has a lot of really cool videos on his Vimeo account, with some experiments made on synths, virtual instruments, effects, controllers, etc. Let’s see:
The Ekdahl Moisturizer is a spring reverb where the springs are exposed so they can be played/hit/fiddled with. I was just playing around this afternoon with various objects, magnets, marbles, tuning forks, mechanical bugs, and slinky coils. Running the audio through a Tiptop Z-DSP. Quite fun.
Absynth 5 experiment, sounds and synth patching by Richard Devine. Lemur interface by Antonio Blanca, September 4 2009.
First experiment with the Tiptop Audio’s Z-DSP module. Amazing range and detail with the delay time and feedback controls. This is one of the most amazing Euro rack modules I have ever played with. 8 time-based VC-Stereo-Delay algorithms. Running TR-808, and TB-303 through the inputs, Amazing!
Just thought I would record a patch I made this afternoon on my modular system. Bits and pieces running through the H-3000 DS/E Eventide Harmonizer.

Yeah, have to agree with 2step but at the end of the day a sound is a sound, weather it’s Melodic or not!

That Tiptop Audio Z-DSP blew my mind. Really incredible delays with that thing! Tempo controlled delay on top of delay, with repitching. Great sample mangling.

I saw Richard at a seminar where he was discussing mix techniques, and realized he did not know what he was talking about. Maybe he is good with making sounds that do not really fit together, but not at audio production. Not to be a hater, but goofing around with a bunch of expensive machines is not that impressive.
By the way, a lot of us have taken Ben Burts idea of using a slinky to create unique sounds. He used it to make the laser blasts in star wars and wall-e, and its a pretty old trick, although valid. If you are going to design sound with someone elses invention, then please credit the person who came up with the idea.

Agree with 2step, I would go further frankly.
Worst use of an Eventide Harmoniser EVER.
