I have taken some excerpts that I consider important from the interview . You can read full article at Music 4 Games.
M4G: What was the music brief for the game’s soundtrack?
Diego Stocco: Michael explained to me that the game was taking place in a future scenario where humans were under attack by alien enemies, so we wanted to create specific musical scenes for the different locations and enemies. In terms of sound they were looking for long evolving ambiences, pounding percussion and grooves, combined with orchestral sounds.
M4G: How much direction and supervision did High Voltage Software provide? How much creative freedom and experimentation was allowed and to what degree were your efforts successful in creating unique sounds?
Diego Stocco: The feedback from Michael Metz has been great. I felt I had full freedom in experimenting with different ideas and they were happy every time they received a new track. Michael knew about my experimental sound design session, especially regarding the Burning Piano, so I think he was expecting me to create something unique and unusual for The Conduit.
M4G: What were the main challenges of writing and producing the score?
Diego Stocco: It was very important to create a rich environment, musically and sonically speaking. Rich and expressive but not obtrusive, because it’s important to obtain a good balance between the visual aspect, the music and all the sound fx of the various weapons and enemies.
M4G: What do you think is the most unique aspect of the score for The Conduit? Which aspect of the score are you most proud of?
Diego Stocco: I think the sound of the score is the unique aspect. I have a pretty solid experience in creating ambiences and cinematic sounds, so to me there’s a strong aesthetic approach behind the sounds I create for my music. It’s important for me to keep introducing new levels of innovation and propose musical colors that fit the project well.
The Conduit is released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii on June 23rd. For more information visit www.conduitgame.com.
