I appreciate the layers you put into this sample.
Working on Sharkwater Extinction, I had access to allot of dive gear and a pool to get the specifics..
In that kind of controlled environment we experimented with Hydrophones and large diaphragm microphones like the Shure VP88 on a boom stand in the water. I just submerged the mic covered with a microphone condom down to about the Cable connector so any surface waves wouldn’t hurt the mic. Tried Recorders and a mic in a camera housing and experimented with layering above water and below recordings to get what we wanted. Very much like what you’ve suggested here. I have used it in countless shows and movies. It’s my go to anytime I need water splashing, movement, or watery footsteps. Absolutely worth adding to your library.

In terms of the use of hydrophones and cinema It’s worth mentioning the amazing sound work that Ernst Karel did for the film Leviathan (Véréna Paravel, Lucien Castaing-Taylor) especially as the camera moves above and below the surface of the water.
