It often feels a bit devious in a way to me. But also its that mystery which makes us so effective. Sound in general being taken as secondary to the visual is what, I think, allows an individual to know about or understand on a certain level where the sounds come from. Yet still they’re able to experience sound in a magical way, as if they’re not aware of what they know.

Often times when asked what I do, I’ll respond “sound design” or “sound for film”. Then I’ll get the response “Oh! so like music?”. So, I sigh.

They really have no interest in knowing the details as to how their sausage gets to their plate- and would likely be repelled if they saw the process.
