Thanks for writing it. I agree that there is great value in audio books that is being overlooked in the current audio climate. It often happens as technologies change and our habits change– we forget what we’re missing. I think the resurgence of vinyl is a good example of that.

When I was a kid I listened to dramatizations of Sherlock Holmes, The Tolkien books, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and many more. I’d love to have a steady stream of new content and see it given a broader market. I think one of the things prohibiting that is that it is very labor intensive and requires some artistic vision and voice. You can’t fit that kind of meaningful sound design into an assembly line model– you have to hire someone good, give them time and pay them well. It’s hard to justify when you are building a budget and the market doesn’t like to pay much more than $1.99 for anything really.

Regardless, I loved your piece and am very happy to know that others out there are appreciative of and hungry for this kind of content. Thanks again!
