I suppose knowing when to leave something alone is a skill in itself.
cheers

Brandon, actually the knocks were recorded with the natural reverb of Bobby’s house, in whatever room he recorded them in. We actually did nothing to them in the mix, no added reverb, so I guess he picked a pretty good door and room!

I took my daughter to see this movie and loved the sound of the film; both music and fx. This scene always stood out to me and it makes even more sense why now.

Gabe, thanks for chiming in being someone who actually worked on the film. Question, how did you go about finding the right reverb for such well record knocks which fit so perfectly with song? What things did you consider?

I’d like to say that our sound editorial team recorded the perfect door knocks and I put just the right reverb on them but in reality the door knocks were recorded by one of our composers, Bobby Lopez, in his New York home when he first did the demo for the song. They worked so well that they survived as is all the way through the final mix. Glad you enjoy them!
