I took an audio course years ago, and there was this big Studer 800-series 24 track. It had (I was told) motors at 1 horsepower each, and in case of a breakdown, a tech would supposedly arrive within 24 hrs to fix it – coming all the way from Switzerland. Of course, it had its own machine-room so you couldn’t hear it running. Magic! Now I need to get myself an old Nagra – just to look at it…
