Alex, thank you for stating your beliefs regarding education, which help clarify why you have written such strong comments regarding my interview. My experience as both student and educator has been greatly influenced by a number of outstanding writers who are not so well known for their IMDB profile, such as Arthur Koestler (“The Act of Creation”), Daniel Levitan (“This is Your Brain on Music”), Don Campbell (“The Mozart Effect”), Robert Jourdain (“Music, The Brain, and Ecstasy”), Joseph Campbell (The Hero’s Journey) and Aristotle (“Poetics”). When I was an MFA student at USC film school (George Lucas’ alma mater), my most inspirational professors, including Ken Muira, Mel Sloan and Ken Robinson, did not have big studio credits, but really knew how to nurture young filmmakers to find their own voice, including Walter Murch, Ben Burtt and Gary Rydstrom. My mission is also to nurture skill sets and creativity in sound with my upcoming game and Sound Design book, which I hope you will read someday. It has proven useful to thousands of readers and many university programs (check out Amazon.com reviews). In fact, I will personally send you a free copy if you state your name and contact, and willingness to open the cover. Then you can judge the book by its content.

Maybe I am completely wrong, but this is exactly what I can’t accept,
I mean when a person tries to teach somebody not having a significant background in related sphere.
The name of the book is “The Expressive Power of Music, Voice, and Sound Effects in Cinema” but in Mr Sonnenschein’s credits I couldn’t find any “expressive” achievements in cinema.

If you teach the piano then you have to be a very good pianist. If you teach the art, you have to be a very good artist. You have to attain something at first. If not, then you just a defective teacher and I won’t send my child in your school. Aforementioned disciplines require mandatory practical experience. In cinema audio I think IT IS your movie credits list (aka IMDB profile).

Please don’t take my comment in the wrong way, Shaun.
I just think that you have to achieve something significant and only then share your experience in public, for money.

As an educator and an active contributor within the community in both commercial and volunteer capacities, David is well respected in the professional and academic communities. IMDB is not the final arbiter of an individual’s professional worth, and rarely does it list all of the contributions within that individual’s career. If you need any proof of that he is someone worth listening to, simply look at this year’s School of Sound Symposium presenters list (schoolofsound.co.uk). He is in the best of company.

But I think this is one of the most stupid, idiotic and disgusting articles on DS, I’ve ever seen.

Please, can somebody explain to me who mr David Sonnenschein is?
I looked at his profile on IMDB and all what I found there were couple of unknown and bizarre B movies.
I can’t understand why everybody should read his book, whiсh he is trying to advertise everywhere and donate money for his bletcherous Kickstarter project. And I don’t understand, why is Desinging Sound so persistenly making post about this person.

Again, I apologize for straight question.
