Hi Shaun, The madness of war and the sounds that this madness produces should be used to generate goodness. Victims are tormented with the pain of these sounds everyday. I hope this library brings them some comfort. Good for you.

the download links provide not only 96k 5.1 files, but also stereo and mono files in 96k, and 48k

in response to the comments of Bob, and nobody…. This library was nearly completed at the time of the Sandy Hook shootings- the point of the gesture is to serve the sound community, at least those in the community who need sounds of this sort, and to have the proceeds be directed to actual victims of the conflicts and violence themselves. In fact, the library is basically a “thank you” for your donations to those organizations. If you think that might be crass, I would ask that you might consider donating to the charities directly via the links on the Sound Dogs site.

I think it’s a great and thoughtful gesture from good people who are trying to do something helpful in the world beyond film sound. Ironic and appropriate at the same time.

I can’t say I disagree with you two. My initial reaction was very similar. I do recognize, however, that there’s a fine line to walk when trying to build a sound effects library that is both relevant to the cause and something people will actually buy (meaning that money will actually be generated for that cause). I’m not necessarily saying it was the right choice, just that it’s not simple. If it brings additional attention to the cause…that’s only for the better. It’s also not as if Charles or SoundDogs is making any money from these libraries either. If that were the case, I would agree with you whole-heartedly…but there was obviously some level of awareness in the decision process.

I like how modern people apprehend information nowadays.
I wonder, is it only me who think it’s kinda strange? Selling guns, ok, sound of guns, to help people who suffer from those guns?
Imho it’s really strange…
