This is something Reaper does very well, and it’s clip-based processing is really extraordinary, unfortunately Reaper’s implementation of 5.1 is only a little better than Pro Tools 4.2.  I’ve had the idea of doing a write-up on it for a while but I’ve been waiting until they support surround sound properly.

Say for instance, you want 12 regions to share one track lane. Drag and arrange, and voila! Each item can still be processed and edited individually, and you can freeze it when you’re done.

I think this sounds good:

ProTools® ReferenceGuideVersion 10.0 -Undoing AudioSuite Processing
If you have processed an audio selection nonde- structively, the Undo and Redo commands let you undo the selected AudioSuite process. You can undo or redo an AudioSuite process during audio playback.

This upgrade would probably be worth that price if Digi had not already gouged us less than a year ago for the “upgrade” to PT 9, which was not an upgrade so much as paying to lost the hardware dongle (a side-grade at best). I’m not sure why this was not done at the same time as these upgrades. For those of us working on smaller salaries (academics), this is not an affordable upgrade.

Talk of missing features:
64bit (surprised face, sad face)
The final hurdle to “Native Bliss”
can’t be too far away now, maybe that’s what the Mayans were on about in 2012!
