I’m not really in a position to give you creditable advice on this as I don’t know your situation or background. Full Sail would certainly be a good facility for you, but just as a friendly offer I would suggest you also consider the University of Miami music engineering dept. I have many friends who have gone through that program and are very successful in the Hollywood sound industry today. There’s also Berklee College of Music in Boston, or there’s always the grandfather of them all, USC here in Los Angeles. I went to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Ca., although their program is more directed toward writing and directing than sound recording or post-production. It’s also possible to forego a college curriculum for now and apply to local TV or radio stations in the audio dept. if they are non-union, as I believe Florida is, to get some practical experience. You could also make yourself available to student films as a good way to get experience in an environment where everyone is learning together.
Best of luck and I hope to see you in the industry soon!
Bruce

To someone whom is about to go back to school for Recording Arts degree, which college truly offers the necessary experience in order to stay motivated to break into the industry and fill the shoes of those that have travelled down your path?

Example: Full Sail vs. Traditional College

I am aware that Full Sail is not a traditional University (actually Vocational), yet in my research I have concluded that most RA programs require a music degree in conjunction to being able to even get the needed skills to be an Audio Engineer. It’s a catch 22 any way the world blogs about the non-existence of a degree that’s geared towards the subject matter. While I’ve been swayed to go down to Florida, all I see is flashing red signs when all I can think about is just finding the place that won’t bankrupt me during my pursuit of the knowledge to move forward toward my dreams.

I also took the job of doing the effects for the recent Hallmark version of “A Christmas Carol” for the same reason- Variety is the spice of life you know…..
