A quick roundup of the independent sfx libraries to have hit our inbox this month.

Blastwave FX – Heroes & Villains

Blastwave FX have launched a competition to coincide with the release of their latest library collection, Heroes & Villains. You will need to call upon your most potent and deadly super power for a chance to win: entrants have to post a video of themselves reading a list of sound effects included in the library… in less than 60 seconds.

Twisted Tools – Metamorph

Metamorph is the brand new sample library from San Francisco instrument software makers Twisted Tools. With over 2GB of audio at 24bit/96Khz, Metamorph’s mash-up of electroacoustic and designed sounds was developed by Italian sound designers BJM Mario Bajardi and Paolo Bigazzi (aka Komplex).

Available now to download for $69. Check their website and Twisted Tools’ YouTube channel for more details.

Blastwave FX, the sound library specialists headed up by Ric Viers (The Sound Effects Bible), have just released a brand new collection of 1001 HD production elements called Hits and Whooshes. Take a listen to the audio demo on the website and you’ll hear a whole host of intergalactic frequency sweeps and bone-breaking hits. A great set of go-to sounds for those in need of transition or impact elements in a hurry.

Review – The Hybrid Library

There is no shortage of general sound effects libraries on the market, and they come in a number of different sizes. Pro Sound Effects is master licensor and curators of the Blastwave FX, BBC, Foundation, and Soundrangers sound effects catalogs, among several others. They’ve done something a little different in putting together their new “Hybrid Library.” Designed for freelancers and independent editors, the collection is composed of general library elements from independent effects designers. With an effects count capping out well above 50,000 sounds, Pro Sound Effects has created a library that can compete with the respected products from Sound Ideas and Hollywood Edge; all while keeping the costs a bit more reasonable for the independent user.
