SoundWorks Collection has released more than 10 videos featuring interviews and exclusive content from the Cinema Audio Society Awards, including Career Achievement Honoree to Randy Thom.

The Cinema Audio Society consists of Sound Mixers and Associates from the Film and Television Industries. The Society was founded to create a proper channel of communication between the related sound crafts and between those instrumental to the production and distribution of film and television soundtracks.

The CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing are presented annually to the winning Re-Recording and Production Mixers in each of four categories: Television Non-Fiction, Variety or Music Series or Special; Television Series; Television Movies or Mini-Series; and Motion Pictures. The competition is open to feature films and television programs released or aired during the calendar year, and the winners are revealed in a sealed envelope ceremony at the Cinema Audio Society Annual Awards Banquet.

For the 2010 CAS Awards the SoundWorks Collection partnered with the CAS to provide exclusive backstage interviews with the winners of this years awards show.

He has shared in 14 Academy Award nominations, winning for best sound editing for “The Incredibles” and best sound for “The Right Stuff.”

He’s been nominated four times by CAS and took top honors in 1995 for “Forrest Gump.”

“The Cinema Audio Society’s Career Achievement Award honors the best of the best, and Randy Thom’s career spanning more than 30 years and over 75 films and numerous awards certainly warrants being honored,” said CAS president Edward L. Moskowitz.

Thom began his career in film 30 years ago working for “Apocalypse Now.” He is currently the director of Sound Design at Skywalker Sound.

DENNIS SANDS, CAS TO RECEIVE CINEMA AUDIO SOCIETY’S CAREER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Los Angeles –Music Scoring and Sound Re-recording Mixer, Dennis Sands, CAS will receive the Cinema Audio Society’s highest accolade, the CAS Career Achievement Award, to be presented at the 44th CAS Awards on February 16th, 2008 at the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium-Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles.

Sands won the CAS Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for FORREST GUMP and was also nominated for CAS Awards for CAST AWAY and CONTACT. He is a four time Academy Award Nominee for THE POLAR EXPRESS, CAST AWAY, CONTACT and FORREST GUMP.
His Sound Mixing for “Steve & Eydie Celebrate Irving Berlin” won him an Emmy Award. Additionally, he has won two Golden Reel Awards for
AMERICAN BEAUTY and SOUTH PARK; Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

His extensive career as a Music Scoring Mixer and a Sound Re-recording Mixer encompasses nearly 200 films, hundreds of episodic television shows and numerous albums for jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Sarah Vaughn, Joe Pass and Oscar Peterson.

Mr. Sands will be the 26th CAS Career Achievement Award Honoree.
Past honorees include Ray Dolby, Robert Altman, Jack Solomon, John Bonner, Bill Varney, Don Rogers, Walter Murch, Jim Webb, Richard Portman, Tomlinson Holman, Mike Minkler and Ed Greene.

The 44th CAS Awards will also honor Outstanding Achievements in Sound Mixing in five categories; Motion Pictures; Television Movies and Mini- Series; Television Series; Television-Non-Fiction, Variety or Music Series or Specials and DVD Original Programming.

The Cinema Audio Society, a philanthropic, non-profit organization, was formed in 1964 for the purpose of sharing information with Sound Professionals in the Motion Picture and Television Industry.
