You’ve just purchased a new plug-in or suite of plug-ins and want to go about exploring them, testing them out, seeing what they are capable of, finding out what kind of sounds can be created.
Do you have “go-to sounds” that you immediately try out as a signal source for your new processors? Perhaps you even have a session that has those sounds cut on to tracks and you just have to instantiate the plugs.
What I go to: tonally-based ambiences, noise-based ambiences, single transient sounds, pattern or sequence of transient sounds, plain human voice, animal vocalizations, breaths.
Looking forward to the collective insight of the community.
I work in radio where water rarely sounds convincing when broadcast (it can sound fine in an edit suite, but then it comes to transmission and it just sounds like mud), so that’s the first.
Flames/Fires; ditto as above.
Mechanical sounds, industrial sounds -just for sheer fun. Soundbits are some of the greatest I have ever heard.
