January’s Featured Sound Designer: Tim Walston

January 3, 2011 by Miguel Isaza 1 Comment

New year, new month, and of course… new guest: Tim Walston, a fantastic person and very talented sound designer/editor who will share lots of cool things with us during this month.

Bio

Tim Walston was born in Northridge, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles, and spent most of his early years unknowingly growing up very close to major Hollywood film studios. His twin passions growing up were movies and music. His education and early job focused on music, until one of life’s curveballs led him to investigate a career in post production sound.

He started as an intern at EFX Systems in Burbank. His first feature credit was “Sub Down”. Lucky to work with a talented and generous group he subsequently worked on films like “Slums of Beverly Hills”, “Clay Pigeons” and “The Mod Squad”.

In late 1999 he moved to SoundStorm, and joined the union. As staff sound designer he worked on many action/adventure titles including “The Fast and the Furious”, “xXx”, “The Sum of All Fears”, “Star Trek: Nemesis”, “Stealth” and the restoration/augmentation of the original 1978 “Superman” in 2000.

He moved to his current home base at Soundelux in 2004. There, his creative opportunities have ranged from action films to comedies, creature features to science fiction, from animation to dramas. He recently contributed sound for a few scenes in “The Green Hornet”, and looks forward to each new project.
