Hi Richard!

Generally, i have many questions about sound design and relative fields, as being new to this, but ill ask just two of them if i may:

I have a very modest gear setup (compared to yours) to do design - which non expensive recorders and mics would you recommend to succesive sound design work in the beginning?

and other one - When you spent your days for many ears constantly "inside" and surrounded by sound (studio, home, even kitchen), has ever thought "about getting tired totally of it all and quit it" visiting you?

Thanx

Hello Richard,

How many times do you need to do the sound design of an ad like Council, website like Mc Donald Avatar?…

Thanks a lot for all the answers on this page.

Great Q+A session. Its impressive to see someone involved in so many different areas of sound application. I think one of the great things about technology is that people like Richard can work with video games, videos, music, software creation and of course the ability to share ideas and information between so many different people.

Experimentation is an important part of new techniques and the tweaking of older ones as well.

Hi ZAGNUT_1

I appreciate your opinion. Everyone have different ways to deal with sound design. What I try to do on Designing Sound is to spread the word about all the sound design styles, techniques and methods and try to have different perspectives and ways to create and manipulate sound.

I think doesn't exist a "definitive rule" to create sounds. Experimentation is one of the most used methods to find really unique sounds. That's what I wanted to show on the Richard's videos, show that crazy and twisted sounds He can get with a little of experimentation with gear, software and all kind of crazy objects. I'm sure many of us have done that many times; just play with our gear and make experiments with it.

If you want to know more about the Richard's work, you can find a lot of great stuff by browsing his website, watching his commercials and videos, listening to his music, presets, libraries, web sound, and so on.

Cheers.

Hello Zagnut, I totally agree you there are many other great sound designers I feel that should be featured here on this blog.

I think the video posts that Miguel (Designing Sound) posted to the blog, weren't the best examples of what I do. I apologize if this is misleading to everyone as they are just little sonic experiments, nothing more then that.

They are no way a representation of my actual sound design work. The work I do for clients is quite different. On my devsnd site there is a small collection of sound design clips that I done for TV & Film. You can find some of it on the clients" page of the http://www.devinesound.net/ site.

I agree thumbman, lol. Here is a question for Richard. How do you convince people that you aren't just playing with gear and making random bits of noise?

Just giving my humble opinion, but there are so many others that should be in line for a sound design interview instead.

This would have been enjoyable if your editor thought for even a second whether or not to edit the questions down, christ
